Irish 22nd At World Surfing Games

Ireland has placed 22nd out of 42 countries competing at the World Surfing Games, Tahara, Japan. A strong team effort from our six surfers, Gearoid McDaid, Sam Moore and Kerry Larkin competing in the Men’s event and Grace Doyle, Holly Widger and Rachel Moore competing in the Women’s event saw the team challenge against the World’s best surfers.
As anticipated, Gearoid Mc Daid was the highest placed Irish surfer, finishing 21st in the

Men’s event. The highlight of his journey through the event was without doubt his first place finish in Round 3 where he beat the event favourite, Kanoa Iragashi, into 2nd place with a 13.83 wave total. A strong performance at the 2019 World Surfing Games could see Gearoid achieve qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games scheduled for Japan.
Congratulations to all the team on a great performance and our thanks to everybody who supported the team to travel to the World Surfing Games.
