Historic 3rd For Irish Surf Team

Irish Surfing is celebrating following the Irish Surf Team’s historic performance

at the 2017 European Surfing Championships that took place in Stavanger, Norway last week. Ireland had four surfers compete on the podium and the team finished 3rd overall, behind Portugal in 1st and Italy in 2nd. Individual medals were awarded to Ashleigh Smith, Silver in Women’s Bodyboard, Shane Meehan, Silver in Men’s Bodyboard, Andrew Kilfeather, Copper in Longboard and putting in an incredible performance to make the Open Men’s final, Gearoid McDaid secured a Copper Medal for his 4th place finish.


The team was led to success by Manager Hugh O’Brien Moran and Coach, Owen Murphy. Irish Judge, Garbhan McCloskey recognised as one of Europe’s leading judges, was on the panel for the Grand Finals and judge both the Open Men’s and Women’s finals.
