The Irish Surfing Intervarsities 2017 took place over the weekend in Lahinch, Co Clare. The annual event
was hosted by Irish Surfing and UL Surf Club. One hundred and twenty competitors from sixteen Universities, ITs and Colleges participated.
The poor weather conditions on Sunday forced organisers to run the entire event on two podiums on Saturday. The Irish Tow Surf Rescue Club provided a safety crew who were on the water to assist competitors during all the heats.
UCC and UL the inform teams with UL taking the overall team title by a narrow margin over UL. GMIT Castlebar finished 3rd and IT Sligo 4th. Anthony Burke, UCC won the Men’s Surf and Shauna Ward, DBS won the Women’s Surf. Dylan Carney, GMIT was the winner of the Longboard event, Cian O’Donovan, UCC won the Bodyboard and Ronan Brennan, Dundalk IT took his 3rd consecutive SUP title.
