Irish Surfing is delighted to announce that the Irish Surfing Intervarsities 2017 will take place
in Lahinch, Co.Clare on the 4/5 March in association with UL Surf Club. Six titles will be awarded in Men's Surf, Women's Surf, Bodyboard, Longboard and SUP along with the coveted overall club title. The Novice Cup will be hosted, for newcomers to surfing, taking on a more fun format with awards for best costume, wipeout, and a range of manouvers. The event is open to any full time student studying at a university, IT and other third level colleges on the island of Ireland and is expected to attract over 150 students from surf clubs representing 15 or more third level colleges. The Irish Surfing Intervarsities has been an annual event on the Irish Surfing calendar since the late nineties.
UL Surf Club boasts itself as one of the largest and most active university surf clubs in Ireland. Located only 50minutes drive away from the Mecca of Irish surfing, Lahinch. It is to this surfers paradise that the club gives its members a chance to take part in weekly and sometimes daily trips. The Club has a renowned history of exceptional trips, both in Ireland and abroad. UL Surf Club caters to all levels of ability – from someone who has never stepped foot in Irish waters, to our most experienced members who pride themselves in taking on some of the country's most challenging waves, such as Aileens. The Club competes annually in the Irish Surfing Intervarsities; with individual and team successes noted on many occasions. UL Surf Club's current president, Paul Deering, is a native of Cavan but Sligo is his adopted home; where he first learned to surf. He can be found frequently surfing Lisadell and Blackspot in his adopted home place and also venturing to slabs in Lahinch. Paul and the team at UL Surf Club are very excited to be hosting this years Irish Surfing Intervarsities alongside the Irish Surfing Association. UL Surf are looking forward to bringing a fun, well-run event which will showcase not just the best of student surfing but also the inclusive nature of student Surf Clubs in Irelands surf capital.
