IRISH SURFINGEaskeyHouse

Irish Surfing is the national governing body for the sport of surfing on the Island of Ireland. We are a voluntary organisation comprising of clubs and groups involved in the development, representation and regulation of surfing in its many forms  including shortboarding, longboarding, bodyboarding, kneeboarding, stand up paddle surfing, skimboarding, body surfing and tow surfing. We are active in areas such as club development, instructor training, surf school regulation, competitive surfing, promotion of safety and protection of our surfing environment. 

Irish Surfing is governed by a board of directors, elected at our AGM by our member clubs. Our office is located in Easkey, Co Sligo where we employ one full time Development Officer, Zoe Lally, to manage our activities and administration.

Irish Surfing is a member for the International Surfing Association (World Governing Body) and the European Surfing Federation (European Governing Body) and we are recognised by the Irish Sports Council, Sport NI and the Olympic Council of Ireland.

OFFICERS

DaveFlynnSurfDave Flynn, Clare -ENVIRONMENT OFFICER

Dave Flynn is professional project management consultant and chartered engineer, based in the mid-west.   He has been surfing for about twenty years.Dave got involved with the West Coast Surf Club over ten years ago and has been closely involved with its development during that time, having acted as ISA representative, environmental officer, longboard representative and joint chair at different stages during that time.    He has also been closely involved with the contest preparation, judging and coordination in Clare and other parts of Ireland.    His involvement with the ISA followed soon after and he has been active at senior level in the organisation for over six years.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dara O’Malley Daly, Donegal- SAFETY OFFICER

Dara qualified as a Marine Electronic Engineer and worked in the merchant navy for many years. He currently works as a Station Officer for the Irish Coast Guard. 

Having started surfing in the late seventies, Dara has had a long involvement with his local surf club, Rossnowlagh Surf Club and the Irish Surfing Association and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to safety in our sport. He is current Secretary of Rossnowlagh Surf Club and former Secretary of the Irish Surfing Association and holds a Level 2 Surf Instructor qualification. Through the years he had been involved in many facets of surfing at local and national level including the hosting of international, national and local events, fundraising, youth coaching and the construction of and in more recent years the refurbishment of Rossnowlagh Surf Clubhouse (Ireland’s first surf clubhouse).

Dara comes from a strong swimming/ water safety background. He is involved in Donegal Water Safety, Marlins Swimming Club and is an Irish Water Safety Examiner/ Instructor. In recent years he has been instrumental in forging our partnership with Irish Water Safety. He has driven safety initiatives with IWS such as the Surf Instructor Beach Award and Safe Surfing Poster Campaign. He has also been instrumental in advancing our Coach Development under the Adventure Sports Framework and has completed Tutor Training and Tutor Assessor Training with Coaching Ireland.

 

LindaByrneWebLinda Bynre, Sligo- NATION CHILDRENS OFFICER

Linda Byrne is our national Children’s Officer. Formally a member of the East Coast Surf Club, Linda has been surfing since the early seventies. Linda moved from Bray to Sligo in the late nineties where she runs 7th Wave Surf School. Linda is an ISC Code Of Ethics Tutor.
